a plastic bag in your pocket. It's handy when the thing you want to keep dry is your bum. It's harder to sit for a long time when you have rising damp in your underclothes.

Swifts are here again, shredding the sky in their hooligan gangs; those handbrake-turners, those wheelie-pullers, those firers-up of the afterburners.

what the weather is doing and how it influences your experience - how the air feels and how the light reflects off the surfaces around you inhale the earthy aroma of petrichor as dry ground is nourished by long awaited raindrops. We know that getting outside is good for you and I'm an advocate for getting out, whatever the weather.

the pied wagtails fly in and out of the nest. How could I feel lonely when there are such things? Wildlife is my refuge. When Im sitting and watching, grown ups usually ask if Im OK. Like its not OK to just sit and process the world, to figure things out and watch other species go about their day. Wildlife never dissapoints like people can.

with but bursting with interesting historical and modern day information about the Thames and rivers in general. Definitely inspires a Thames-long walk....

eating food that makes me feel good, from a source that I am comfortable with. I hope that I am not too annoying at dinner parties, I make mistakes, I am greedy and inconsistent, but I am trying. To me, that is being an ethical carnivore.

take only a handful of each species, but when the moment came, he couldn't resist emptying out entire trays....
